I was very sorry to learn the news of Zhang Kaiyuan’s death. He was a remarkable scholar and leader, and it was a privilege to have known and worked with him.

The last time I saw him was in Wuhan before the conference in Zhuhai commemorating Wei Chomin. If I remember, Prof Zhang did not make the trip with us.
